Is it possible for a ballerina, with enough care and pedicures, to keep her feet pretty?

By "ballerina", I mean one who regularly dances en pointe.

By "pretty", I mean "just presentable": good enough to wear sandals to school, and okay to go barefoot at home and not scare the living daylights out of your brother.

I know it's a "given" that ballerinas have ugly feet. But is there any way around this?

I'm seriously considering whether to go on pointe. I AM ready for it: I'm 16 and have been dancing for 3 years. I'm debating the worth and risks of doing it, and this is only one of many considerations.

I do, however, like my feet exposed. When I'm not dancing, I rarely wear socks or closed-toe shoes.
Okay, what I meant by "pedicures" are self-pedicures :p.

I really don't have the money nor time to go for a professional one hahaha. Nor do I really want one.
Aaaah, all the answers are equally so good!! THANKS A LOT, everyone! But I can't decide which answer is best, so let's vote!

    I danced for about 6 years and I take point! Yes, everyone says dancers have ugly feet. But thats not really true… i just keep my toenails short and paint them. And always make sure you have padding in your point shoes! I think pedicures would work but i never got them when i danced.

    I had the same concerns. If you wear tape over your toes it definitely eliminates the blister faction. Toe nail poilish adds style and helps strengthen toe nails.

    Always keep your toe nails, especially your big toe, cut. So it doesn’t break or fracture.

    You also want to mostiurize your feet with foot creme, which will help keep your feet from cracking.

    The thing is callouses actually help because the skin gets tougher and harder to break.

    i have danced for 3 years and i am going into point next year. and i am the same way. and i dont even do point yet! i dont let anyone see my feet but if u keep up on them then they will be fine just make sure that u do wear sandals and let ur feet brethe. if ur feet dont brethe then that will be a big problem. ur feet need air so dont have them in dance shoes and then put socks on beecause that is what messes them up. really u should do point dont let anything stop u.and keep dancing!!!!!!!

    If you take pointe I cna be pretty hard to keep your feet pretty. But if you soak them in water and get pedicures it will be pretty easy to keep your feet pretty.

    my classmate was doing professional ballet for 12 years, and as i heard a lot of broken point in the middle of performance stories and as she told me she threw them out every 5 times she wore them because it was impossible to wash out the blood, i dont think it is possible to protect your feet from the ballet damage..

    Keep your toenails short and protect your toes with tape and padding. By always wearing tights, you can help prevent blisters, as can proper fitting shoes.

    You can also help protect your feet by using a show like Gaynor Minden. They are more expensive, but they last longer and have more stability and cushioning. When you aren’t pressing up against cardboard & glue all day like in regular pointe shoes, you can almost keep your feet attractive.

    Invest in a pumice stone and use it daily in the shower or any dry spots. Moisturize nightly with a good quality foot cream. And remember that the more that you dance en pointe, the harder it will be to maintain the appearance of your feet. : (
